🐾 Shape Safari


Focus: Basic shape recognition, observation, gross motor skills

Theme: Exploration and Movement

Materials:

  • Just your eyes, hands, and imagination!

  • Optional: paper and crayon to mark shapes found 

Instructions:

  1. 🕵️‍♂️ Go on a Shape Safari around your home, yard, or playground. Pretend you are explorers looking for shapes in the wild!

  2. 🔍 Look for big and small shapes: circles, squares, triangles, rectangles.

  3. When you spot a shape:

    • Call it out (“I see a circle!”)

    • 🎨 Make the shape with your hands or color them on paper.

  4. 1️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣ Count together how many of each shape you find.

Discussion Questions

  • Which shape did you see the most?

  • Can you find a shape that is big? One that is small?

  • Can you make a shape with your body?

Optional Extensions

  1. 🏃‍♀️ Shape Movement Game: Call out a shape and have the child run or hop to an object of that shape.

  2. 🍂 Shape Sort: Collect safe objects (rocks, leaves, blocks) and sort them by shape or color.

  3. 📚 Shape Story: Make up a short story using the shapes you find.

  4. 🎨 Shape Art: Arrange shapes to make a picture of an animal, house, or flower.
